European Sweeps Of The Oscar

Monday morning (yesterday), the Oscar ceremony was held without any boycott or unwanted incidents that may interrupted the show. The end of the writer's strike has definitely bring much hype and"back-to-business" situation where the industry has estimated the loss of more than half a billion dollarover the past 10 weeks. Again, no movies dominated the awards, last seen in 2003 with The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King.


Oscar began with the host, Jon Stewart joked about this year's nominees for the big best picture of the year. No Country For Old Men, Atonement, Michael Clayton, Juno and There Will Be Blood are all up for the highest honour.

The big winner of the night are none but the Coen Brothers. Their dark psycho hitman features of No Country For Old Men won four awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Austrian film of The Counterfeiter won the Best Foreign Language Film. Ratatouille, celebrating this year of rat by winning the highest honour of animation features.

The winners for the acting category stole the limelight, where for the first time in years, all are from Europe. The clean sweep of the European began when Marion Cotillard of France won the Best Actress in leading role for her feature role as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose. Then, Javier Bardem of Spain won the Best Actor in supporting role in No Country For Old Men. Tilda Swinton won Best Actress in supporting role for her critical claimed protrayal in Michael Clayton while Daniel Day Lewis won his second Best Actor in leading role in his career for role in There Will Be Blood. Both are Scots and Irish respectively.

Also stealing the limelight, The Bourne Ultimatum won three awards in tschnical categories while The Golden Compass upsetted the heavyweight contenders of The Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Transformers for visual effect title. Screenplay for Juno and No Country For Old Men also won the Original and Adapted Screenplay respectively.
