When Nobel Prize was set up in the early 20th century and when the first Nobel Prize was given out, it was the objective and the will of the founder himself, Alfred Nobel who wished to use his will of lots of sum of money to be awarded to peoples or scientists who had achieved great discovery in sciences and applied sciences that had changed the world and benefited the world so much. How noble Mr. Nobel? 108 years had gone and passed by, and the Nobel Prize, now been under the care of Nobel Institute still served the same objectives as what Alfred had first in his mind 110 years ago.
Every year, the Nobel Prize will be given out in Stockholm, Sweden. The prized except the Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded at 11 December each year, while the Peace Prize is on a day earlier but at Oslo, Norway. Talking about the prize ceremony, I've been there once, serious!! I was at the Nobel Prize ceremony in 2002, after my SPM exam. It was a privilege to be there back then because I won something for my school back then.
Well, let us skip everything and look at this year winners of Nobel Prize and how they have contribute to humanity!
1) NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE
Harald zur Hausen (Germany)
"for his discovery of human papilloma viruses causing cervical cancer". Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer. Thanks to him, the vaccination of cervical cancer due to the virus become possible.
Francoise Barre-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier (France)
Luc Montagnier
"for their discovery of human immunodeficiency virus". HIV causes AIDS, a still uncurable disease that had become global issue. The future looks bright with a possible future vaccination. Let us pray and dedicate this to the sufferer of the disease itself.
2) NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE
Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio (France)
"author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization". Wow!! That is so poetic, can anyone understand the statement?
3) NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY
Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien (USA) and Osamu Shimomura (Japan)
"for the discovery and development of the green flurescent protein (GFP)". GFP is a protein ingridient found in jellyfish but I hell don't understand it uses.
4) NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS
Makato Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa (Japan)
"for their discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics, which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature". What is this?
Yoichiro Nambu (USA)
"for his discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics". Same thing, what is that? Go to this for more dizziness, click here. But I bet it had something to do about resonance!!
5) NOBEL PRIZE IN PEACE
Martti Ahtisaari (Finland)
Former President of Finland and United Nation diplomats "for his important efforts, on several continents and over three decades to resolve international conflicts"
6) NOBEL PRIZE IN ECONOMIC SCIENCE
