DAY FIFTEEN: GIRLS, DO YOU QUALIFY AS BOND GIRL?

Do you know who is the luckiest guy in the World? Ok, you don't have to crack your head to think so hard. He is not actually real - I mean, he is real but not in the real world. He is a fictional-man created by some dude by the name of Ian Fleming more than half a century ago. He is an icon for peoples who were inspired by the awesome world of secrecy, cold wars, communism and spy, oh and also pretty girls. Who is he you ask?

He is James Bond, the Agent 007, a heroic spy who will never die; even if he was hit by bullets, been exploded in an oil tank, jumped from a building caught in fire without broken bones or having no choice but to fight with villains without his trademark magnum gun but miraculously still win. He is also very damn rich. He owns so many cars including those exotic Aston Martins. He can travel everywhere he wants. And he is HOT! Remember when Daniel Craig play as 007 in the movie "Casino Royale", having had his "ball" been "scratched" by the bad guy because it was "itchy"?

Okay, besides that, he is considered LUCKY as well because he has many GIRLFRIENDS or SEX PARTNERS or COMPANION GIRLS or what-so-ever you want to call them. DAMN!! That man is having a lot of jealousy and envious from other men including me. I wish I would have a girlfriend (Attention: 'a', not two or three) from someone whom I love so much; but don't have to be like him. Well, James Bond is a womaniser! Who can deny this?

This is the new face, remember her name, Gemma Arterton. She is 22. Oh s***

Olga Kurylenko, very Ukrainianicious indeed, I like. Actually she looks like some one I know.
I was reading from the newspaper about James Bond's new movie, Quantum of Solace, due to be out at the end of this year. This time, a newcomer, 22-years old British actress Gemma Arterton will be playing as one of the so called BOND GIRL, MI6 Agent Fields who is a fresh graduated MI6 agent. Apparently there is a romantic and (SX) scene for them. [Oh that is sucks, Daniel Craig playing with a 22 years-old pretty girl, OMG] Another Bond Girl, I heard was the "lead Bond Girl' playing the role of Camille, who is going to partner with James Bond in his mission. Camille is played by Olga Kurylenko. You probably remembered her as the girl in the movie "Hitman" last year.

BOND GIRLS

Over the last 22 James Bond movies ever made, the BOND GIRLs played a vital roles in the mission of James Bond (This excludes M and Miss Moneypenny). Bond Girls refer to a woman whom portraying a love interest or sex object of James Bond himself in which they can be a victim rescued by Bond, fellow agents, allies or villainesses.

A Bond Girl must fullfil these criterias, according to Ian Fleming's ideal Bond Girls:
  • Age in her early to mid-twenties, been a decade younger than Bond
  • Must be beautiful with well-developed pattern of beauty
  • Must possess splendid figures and tend to dress in a slighly masculine, assertive fashion, with few pieces of jewelry
  • Must wear little makeup, short nails, no nail polish
  • Blond, auburn, brown or black hair
  • Blue and often widely sapced eyes
  • Must sexually experienced!! [no comments]
  • Must have some sort of independent job or a career
  • Must some how will never appear in the next movies
Okay here are some famous Bond Girls ever appeared in a movie.

My personal favourite; Vesper Lynd (by Eva Green in Casino Royale) been the only two James Bond really in love with. She's pretty and I kinda "like" her as well, you know her been a French!!
Halle Berry as Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson in Die Another Day.
Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder in Dr. No.
Mie Hama as Kissy Suzuki in You Only Live Twice, been the only Bond Girl who had a son with James Bond and she is Japanese. His son names James Suzuki. Okay, I didn't know that!!

Diana Rigg as Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, been the only Bond Girl who was married officially to Bond but was shot dead later on.
Teri Hatcher as Paris Carver and Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies. Kudos to our very own Malaysian Bond Girl.
Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova in From Russia with Love, one of the most famous Bond Girl in the history. She is cruel, grrrr...
And lastly, Jane Seymour as Solitaire in Live and Let Die, been the only VIRGIN BOND GIRL before been bedded by Bond, wow!!
To all the Bond Girls, you people are damn beautiful. God blesses us!!

OIL PRICES: IN MALAYSIA AND THE REST OF THE WORLD

The world oil price is at three months low of US$ 119 per barrel, equivalent to RM387, thanks to these few favourable data that contributes to lowering the oil prices for the past 4 weeks:

  1. The announcement by George W Bush to lift the executive ban on off-shore oil drilling, which allowed more oil production
  2. Reduction in oil demand in US with the newly data shows that consumers travel less in May. Mileage in average of travel made by American consumers showed a dip in 4% meaning they travelled less and this signifies lower in demand
  3. The recent strengthening US Dollar
The level is low when compared with the level of US$ 147 or RM478, the record height in July 11 this year due to the concern over Iranian missiles test. On that eventful day, the Iranian showed the world how good they can built missiles that can crossed over Iraq and Jordan ended up able to land the missiles somewhere in Israel.

Yet the September 1, 2008 is a date when all Malaysian are anticipating since the government had decided to make the oil price to be floated and very much according to the global price. The government also decided to subsidy only 30 cents; meaning the consumer will have to pay pretty much 30 cents cheaper than the global market price. It is a pump-floated era with no longer any policy where government pay less subsidy when the price is low or pay more when the price is up. Maintaining 30 cents subsidy for each litre is a good thing, but the impact is not clear and we may have an unpredictable inflation and prices in the future.
Let's look at the current situation:
WORLD OIL PRICE at AUGUST 6, US$ 119 (RM 387)
1 Barrel of oil = 159 litres of oil
Therefore you have, RM387 per barrel/159 litres
So you have the production cost of RM 2.4340 per litre

Then, we have other things that also involved in it that we called
THE OTHER COSTS = Transportation + Storage + Commission + Miscellaneous
In Malaysia, the "Other Costs" = RM 0.32

Therefore, the oil price in a petrol station is
PRICE AT PUMP = PRODUCTION + OTHERS
The price at pump is RM 2.7540

But, the government is so generous to subsidy 30 cents for each litre
YOU PAY = RM 2.4540!! 25 cents cheaper than now!!

Then, do expect to pay this much on September 1, 2008 if this figure is been used.
* The figures given are solely based on the global oil price at August 6. This is not the real price you will pay but at the moment it looks like this way. Please be reminded that these value are estimation only.

Over the past 40 years, the global oil prices have been on the upward trend in line with inflation and time. However, the last 10 years saw the prices have been up exponentially and rapidly. Why? It is because we are running out of oil, or a group of peoples known as speculators are doing it for fun? The Chinese and the Indians which accounting to about 40% of the World population are burning fuel more and more each day making demand for oil remains high. Whatever the reasons are, we are running out of the fossil fuel, no doubt for that fact as some say the oil may diminish in 3 decades. And as i mentioned before in my earlier posts about oil prices, it was controlled and made by human - speculators for another group of human - consumers. Do you think that even if Saudi Arabia announced an increase in production of over 250,000 barrels daily today can make any differences in oil price tomorrow? These are the acts of a group of people who controls the oil. Spread some rumours, and ask people to sell for some personal profit, the oil price will up and down (fluctuate) each day.

I wonder if we have a system where no speculations involved - world oil price is determined upon agreements form all nations of the world. Ideally US$ 70 to 80 is the best range of oil we should be comfortably in. We hope that days do come, because if so, Malaysian oil price will be at RM 1.45. (Don't believe me, formulate this with the calculation as on above)

The oil prices over the past 30 years as shown on the graph above had been on upward trends - thanks to these few events in our lifetime; a long war between Iran and Iraq in between 1980 to 1988, 1991's Gulf War, ongoing weakening US Dollar since 2002, 2003's US invasion into Iraq, Katrina Hurricane in 2006, financial crises due to subprime issues in 2007 and recent developments in 2008.

Okay, it's not a total fault and blame to be directed to the government for the hike in oil price but the reality is clear to everyone. The government are able to control the oil price at more reasonable price if they managed the account well - less spending on submarines, less spending on this and that!! Do we really need those submarines to fight terrorists or any rapists looming on the streets? What's more important - charging people for sodomy (use money) or making the benefits for its people (also use money as well)? Change lifestyles okay!!

Environment Part 2: Global warming

On the first part of the series, I have talked about the environment issue from the aspect of wildlife conservations. So how was that? Bored I guess! Well, I guess you are the type of person whom only sleeps and don't do anything. Here's some little piece of extra: Experts in the field claim that we are on the verge of Holocene extinction event, an event of widerspread, ongoing mass extinction of species during the Holocene epoch - which began around 10,000 B.C. until today. Since 1500, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources have documented about 784 extinctions to have occured.
Dodo bird, a turkey-like birdie
I bet not many remembered this poor birdy, the Mauritius Dodo which became extinct in the late 17th century. How many should we wait until many are getting towards disappearance from the Earth?
In today's second part, I humbly presents you Global Warming. The word looks "HUGE" but it refers to the global condition with an increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth since mid-20th century. Over the last century, the global air temperature increase about 0.75-0.90 degree Celcius, with a further rise of 1.1-6.4 degree celcius during this century, according to Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).So, you can expect weather become more hotter in the next years. The global climate is affetced by variations in orbit around the Sun, changes in solar luminosity, solar activity, volcanoes and atmospheric greenhouse gas effects. Althought the real causes of global warming is not clear, apparently the latter attributes to more of such event due to widely usage of fossil fuel, highly industrialization and massive deforestation.
Fossil fuel burning, more carbon dioxide released
Deforestation...more carbon dioxide
The collection of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere warms the planet by absorbing and emissing the infrared radiation from the sun. The heat is unable to escape back, thus trap inside the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases do occur naturally giving a mean warming effect of 33 degree Celcius keeping the Earth's average temperature of 15 degree - comfort suitable for life. So that's why we are so comfortable in this range of temperature!! Major greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone, while nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride form the minor part. With increase industrial activity, more and more such gases from industries by-product continue to be released. The concentration of carbon dioxide and methane have up 31% and 149% since mid-1700s. The current concentration of carbon dioxide is believe to be at 385 parts per million (ppm).
In 1997 and up until now, about 181 nations and the European Union have ractified the Kyoto Protocol, which aimed at reducing emission of greenhouse gases by a certain amount of 5.2% compared to the level at the year 1990 as a whole. Only US and Kazakhstan have not done so. Many scientist also believe that keeping the global temperature at under 2 degree Celcius above the pre-industrial era of 1800s.

KEEPING IT 2 DEGREE ABOVE? NO WAY!!
However, WWF made some point that keeping it that way is not good enough! Why?
Here's why:

(1) A rise of 2 degree does not apply well to the Arctic as it has a sensitive environment that a minimal 2 degree rise would lead to minimum 3.2 degree increase. The reason, ice melting of the polar pack. The ice pack used to reflect the sunlight back into the space but it is now replaced with water which instead absorbs heat. As a consequence, the summer will feature no or little ice left. So gone Arctic, where is my polar bear is going then?
(2) Increase in 2 degree will causes annual rainfall in Mediterranean decrease by 20% in Northern region and 30% in Southern region. Thus, lack in water supply and heatwave will mean a threat for forest fire.
(3) Eastern Canadian will get the impact as 2 degree rise causes black supre and sugar maple to be forced to go northwards thus depleting timber supply. Also, high temperature means lesser arrival of Atlantic salmon - already an endangered species

WHAT HAPPEN NOW?

  • Global warming is melting glaciers everywhere.
  • Smaller Arctic sea ice cover recorded each year.
  • 2003 is the hottest year for Scotland on record.
  • Coral reef is bleaching
  • More heatwaves in cities like Athens, Chicago, Milan, New Delhi and Paris
  • Rising sea levels threatening low-lying islands in Pacific and Indian Oceans
So now, look around us. You are not the only one facing the proble. Everyone does. The effects may not be so obvious for us to pin-point that the global warming is here. It is here, but we just not aware its existence. Ignorance is bliss!! Ignoring the global warming is not good. Something must be done now. Reduce dependence of fossil fuel, use your energy efficiently and try to save, protect the forest and take care of the land itself. What kind of people are you?

Environment Part 1: Conservation

I know this is a dry subject. No one really gives attention about it, neither talking about it. It's your boring biology that we tend to lazy or hate to go to read it often. In more depths, I am talking about conservations and environment. Why do we bother to care about? Let me ask you a question, where are you standing and living right now? Earth, right - the third rock from the sun. I bet you realize that there are so much other things in this world we can love for - not only other human, but also the flora (plants) and animals (fauna) are all available in this world. Environment is a broad topic, which may covers wildlife and conservation, global warming, recycling and so forth. In this first part, we will venture out into wildlife conservation.

Conservation can be defined as protection of valued resources and protection from changes. Conservation and environment have never been a subject of interest among the bloggers. Recently, the Wild Nuffnang Party was held - and allow me say this: it is only a costume-party rather than to raise awareness about environment issues that keeps on bugging the Mother Nature. I used to be a member of my school's Nature Club (Kelab Pencinta Alam). I remembered those days when we go to National Parks, doing jungle hiking, list downs the species characteristics, running for recycle campaign and other stuffs. Gone are those days but the spirit of environment is still there.

The humans are categorized into three kinds:
Environment experts and their allies
The hunter and destroyer

People who stands in between doing nothing (okay, he is not human!!)

How true. The war between the environmentalist and those taking profit from their wreckage on the Mother Nature has been forged over the years, too long for anyone of us to remember. Everytime, I am sure that those people from GreenPeace will make noise and protest when ever they want and when ever they are people who are trying to "destroy" the environment. GreenPeace International which was set up in 1971 in Vancouver, Canada is now a major environmental non-profit group dealing with issues like whaling, nuclear power and global warming and usually they do protest and try to place a big banner to show their disagreement.
See, they even have a fancy protesting ship. They are everywhere, so beware. Recently, the GreenPeace launched a protest over the government of Japan for allowing whaling activity in the Pacific Ocean, Antartica nad Artic region. The move following reports that the number of whale had risen back due to heavy efforts on consevating them. The move angered many party and the some are considering a sue against the Japanese government.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) based in Switzerland is the world's largest independent and charity conservation organization with over 5 million supporters worldwide, working in more than 90 countries, supporting 100 conservation and environmental projects around the world. How noble but I don't remember them winning any Nobel Prize before, how come and how sad!! Feeling curious, I went to their website and I have to say it is very interesting and informative. You should go and pledge some supports for them as well. Currently, the G8 members state are in summit in Japan, we from the environment care side do hope some fruitful solution for global warming and environment issues to be tackled through.

According to the good people from WWF and some other sources I have searched, apparently it is listed that there are few problems and challenges we can see everyday that are threatening the whole wildlife kingdom.
(1) Habitat loss is one of them, due to human exploitation of land for agricultural and other purposes have involving many trees been cut down, forest shrinking and animals have no where to live. In 1990s, forest loss is estimated at 94 million hectares. While 37% of world's population are living 60km within the sea side, this have contributes to degradation of marine habitat as well.

(2) Human-animal conflict where both side are fighting for food and space, and of course human always win. How would you react if elephant is in your backyard?

(3) Wildlife trade is another one. Very hard to describe, but imagine this; tiger been hunted and killed each year for their skin, meat and later into herbal products. Or something like people smuggling animals and insects and plants across the borders for money.

(4) Climate change is the most important thing to say. Our world is getting warmer and warmer every second. While we continue to pump thousands of CO2 into the air, some animal species need to evolute to adapt the ever changing environment. Antartica is no longer icier than ever, deserts are expanding and breaching into grassland, sea level is increasing. This is a survival issues where humans are as well in danger of it too.

(5) Bycatch means netting everything even we don't need it. That is why when people fishing, it is encourage that we only catch the "adult" one while the "children" should be released back into their wildlife. With modern technique of fishing using big big net in thrawler, many non-adult fishes are netted as well. So where will be the next generation going to be?

(6) Pollution, the never ending issues. There are morons who still throw their rubbish into drain, from above bulding and what ever. My neighbour is one of them, wtf!! About 26 times more pesticide have been sprayed into the crops over the last 50 years. Oil spilts everywhere, open burning causing haze, while the Norwegian found the commonly used chemical deca-BDE (deca-brominated diphenyl ether) in polar bears and gulls on the remote Arctic archipelago of Spitsbergen. These findings, far from any known source, contradict previous industry claims that deca-BDE does not build up in humans and wildlife.

As far as I know, conservation project in Malaysia are concentrated more on tigers, rhinos, elephants, turtles and orang utans. International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources have listed almost all endangered species in their Red List. Almost 85% of the animal listed are classifed either as "Threatened" and "Endangered".
Sumatran and Borneo Orang Utan - Classified as Critically Endangered where their number have fallen by 80% over the last 75 years. Due to the rapid deforestation, the number of Sumatran is only around 6,600 while Borneo only has 49,000.
Mauritius Parakeet - Classified as Endangered. It is only found in Mauritius after the same species in Reunion Island have totally wiped out. Due to successful conservation, the number had increased from 10 in 1970s to about 150s now.
Floreana Coral - Classified as Critically Endangered, is endemic in Galapagos Islands. They are under danger due to rising sea water temperature and global warming, also they once disappeared after the El Nino effect in 1983.
Giant Panda - Classified as Endangered, a national icon of China. They are only estimated at 3000 at the last count. Thanks to the conservation efforts over the last 20 years, their hope were restored.
Wild Apricot - Classified as Endangered, is now rare in their natural home in China and Central Asia. Due to rapid construction for tourism sectors, the species been abandoned in the wild to face extinction.
Polar Bear - Classified as Vulnerable. Again an example of good conservation increased their number to current 25000. But this may hampered as hunting for them continues.
I know it is kind of long but this is a way I can make this pledge to all of you out there to support wildlife conservation. Go to WWF Malaysia and give them some help. I helped them before and I'm looking forward for more in the future. So which human are you? TO BE CONTINUE....

IF YOU CARE, DO NANG!!

Archie

Over the years I grew up, there is one comic that I loved so much. Popular way back since my father's age, archie is entertaining, hillarious and cool. It talks about a life of a dude and pre-adulthood kind of life. Archibald "Archie" Andrew, the main character is a lovable character. Fortunate that this dude is somehow caught in a love triangle, since many girls liked him.

Everyone wants to live in fantasy world like Archie's. The world is nice, slowly paced and relaxed. Imagine how cruel this real life can be!! Everyone is worried about their own.

The band

I still remember when I was 11 when I first bought the comics. It was funny, almost spilled out my lavage gaster contents because I just can't stand with the stupidity and jokes - so funny. I remember Archibald Archie had a band with his friends - Reggie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead, forming a band known as The Archie. I think one of their famous song was "Sugar Sugar". The song was a popular hit in 1969, making itself at number one in music chart.

Archie

Reggie

Elizabeth

Jughead

Veronica

Haha, I just love these peoples!! I hope there will be a live-action movie about these bunch of people then.

Archie..........
