Hello Michael Bay

Literally this post is not about me meeting him. Nope, I never met him yet! I wished I could since he is a great director with many films under his credit. Wait!! Do you know who is he? Yeah, Michael Bay? If yes, good for you because you are really keeping up with the mainstream. But if you are not, where have you been?

Born Michael Benjamin Bay on February 17, 1965, he is certainly credited for been a great American director and producer. Early in his career, he was more inclined towards making TV commercial and music video for artistes. He started early and was part of the young storyboard filer with LucasFilm for the movie Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Ark, before he began venture out on the director's seat. He started doing music videos for people like Tina Turner, Lionel Ritchie and Aerosmith. He also done many TV comercial for Nike, Reebok, Budweiser, Coca Cola and General Motors. He then started to become producers for many films with horror genre and own his own production company.

In 1995, he started to direct his first feature film, Bad Boys. From then onwards, you will probably notice that all his film always have the same trademark of direction. He always include sponsorship into film (simply an easy way to help big companies sponsoring the movie to advertise) and chaotic scenes with shaky camera. Well, that's Michael Bay's style.

Come and let's look at all his work as a movie director.

It started with Bad Boys (1995) action comedy which features Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as buddy cops together in combating druglords in Miami.

Then we moved on to 1996's The Rock. Okay, not that The Rock. But this "The Rock". This is a highly action movie primarily involving the prison of Alcatraz Island. Stars Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage and Ed Harris. The Rock won a number of minor awards, including 'Best On-Screen Duo' for Connery and Cage at the MTV Movie Awards as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. It's the only Michael Bay film to have been given a "fresh" rating (62%) on Rotten Tomatoes.

In 1998, he returned with Armageddon, a film about asteroids impact that will happen and a group of oil driller are sent to save the world from the impact. Stars Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck and Billy Bob Thorton. The movie was heavily critised for inaccuracies and non-sense plot. Despite the poor reviews and criticism, Armageddon was nominated for four Academy Awards (Best Sound, Best Special Effects, Best Effects Editing, and Best Original Song).

In 2001, Pearl Harbor, a war film based on the true events, became his fourth film. It stars Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, Jon Voight, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Garner, Cuba Gooding Jr and much more stars. The movie is damn 3 hours long, heavily critised for again inacurracies. At the 2002 Academy Awards, Pearl Harbor was nominated for four awards, winning one for Sound Effects Editing. Its other nominations were for Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Song.

Then two years later, the team from the Bad Boys return for another hilarious adventure in this sequel.

2005, Bay brought you another high riding adventure of "escape-from-dystopia", The Island. This movie is considered a failure in box office but was considerd as one of the best for me in that year. Stars Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson and Sean Bean, the movie is about the clone been used up as a spare part for real human on surface.

And, lastly, the latest film by him was of course

Wow, awesome. Transformers was the one of the best film ever made by Bay. No doubt. I gave 4.0 stars last year. It will get 4.5 if not because of the lack in flowability in the story plot. Otherwise, it was the best. Everyone is now looking forward for next year's sequel to Transformers. Can't wait? Me either. Well, just wait for the June 26, 2009.

Some updates for Transformers 2: At the moment, the title of the movie will be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

NANG IT!!
