January 5, 2010. Google finally unveiled their much long-awaited smartphone to the world. The device, Nexus One, is manufactured by HTC and uses Google’s own mobile operating system, Android. With the new smartphones by Google, questions begin to arise whether this is the next alternative for Apple’s darling, iPhone. So, how both phones fared when the two were compared from all aspects?
WHAT GOOGLE IS NOT ALWAYS APPLE!!
This is a tough question to answer. First of all, I would like to remind you that both phones cater a different segment of users. iPhone is Apple and Nexus One is Google. So, in short, if you are those who are familiar with Safari, iTune, iPod or Aperture; iPhone could be the one you should use. Otherwise, take Nexus One if you are more keen towards Picasa, Android, Gmail and other Google applications. For that, they actually caters different segment users based on their preferences over Apple or Google’s applications.
WHAT SO DIFFERENT BETWEEN THEM?
Secondly, spend a few moment to look at the comparison table in terms of phone specifications between Nexus One and iPhone 3GS below. The table was taken and modified from billshrink(dot)com.
iPhone 3GS | Nexus One | |

To be frank with you, I do not see much different between iPhone 3GS and Google Nexus One. On paper, the spectrum differs not much to each others while even Google Nexus One is only cheap by merely few tens of dollar from iPhone 3GS.
WHAT GOOGLE HAS THAT APPLE DON’T?
To answer this, I checked this post from Huffington Post where they laid out seven stuffs that Google Nexus One has that Apple iPhone do not.
(1) Nexus One’s keyboard is amazingly arranged, complete with “auto-complete suggestions)
(2) Longer battery life that also equipped with a replaceable battery that can be switched out if it fails
(3) Better camera quality of 5.0 Megapixel with flash
(4) Easily dictate texts, emails, searches and notes – 90% accurate and faster than typing
(5) More open application store – Android Market does not require developers to lobby for approval for applications
(6) Cheaper in price over long term – for 2 years of contract (in US), iPhone costs $3,799 with contract while Nexus One costs only $2,579
WHAT GOOGLE HAS THAT APPLE DON’T?
Well despite the hype, I think it is still best for you to watch the following video.

BROWSER, SPECS, NAVIGATION COMPARISON AND MORE
So what is your call? Which one you choose is pretty much depends on your preferences. Judge them by yourself. I know my affinity is on Google, so Nexus One is probably the one for me.
