TOMORROW IS THE RELEASE DATE FOR SAMSUNG CONTINUUM OR GOOGLE NEXUS TWO?

The rumors on the continuation in the Google's softly-accepted Nexus One have been fired up wildly over the internet over the past week. Google Nexus Two, as some including those peoples in Gizmodo has claimed, will be the new phone released by Samsung on the eventful day of 8th November (which is tomorrow). However, another source debunked it by claiming that Samsung is launching a new model known as Samsung Continuum i400 tomorrow.

Yes, Samsung Continuum will be unveiled within this week, exclusively available by Verizon in the United States at the price of US$199. So what is a Samsung Continuum anyway? It is believed to be a new smartphone that takes into very much similarity with Samsung Fascinate and other Galaxy S series. The new device runs on a 1 GHz processor Hummingbird that powered by Android 2.1, a five megapixel camera with LED flash, and mobile hotspot capability. It will also include a 3.4-inch, 480x800 AMOLED main screen and a 96x400 secondary display and certainly WiFi capable.

DAY FIVE: HTC LEGEND PLAN WITH DiGi

Hey, it's day five on the Blogathon Word Count. No, luckily I have yet to feel the burnout yet, so technically I am still on for the daily blogging (hehe...)

On today's post, I would like to introduce to the blog reader regarding HTC Legend and its plan if we are using DiGi. This should appeal to those who want to get one HTC Legend under DiGi or otherwise make this as comparison to the others. For your information, DiGi is Malaysian telco that has been around since 1995, with 49% shares owned by Telenor ASA of Morway.

HTC Legend is one of the latest product from HTC that performs under the Android platform software of version 2.1. It has been on the market for the past month and it has finally arrived in Malaysia, thanks to the effort of many. HTC, been a slate smartphone should be very appealing in this tablet era and so far has garnered many good reviews especially for its design and improved user interface as well as its performance, optical trackpad and the aesthetic.

iPAD, WePAD, EveryonePAD....PART ONE

Apple, Inc. It is not just about an iMAC, iPHONE, iPOD or iPAD. It is a household brand name that boast the creativeness, drained exactly from the brain of Steve Jobs himself. For me, there are so much to love and to hate about their products. Neverthless in most cases, I have to agree that Apple products has been served as a tester for the customers' taste for current techs; always a step ahead from the others in terms of products placement. They set the early pace for others to follow. Technology is started by them and then improved by others. Is that what it is about Apple? Maybe, look at iPhone for instance. iPhone keeps getting better and better, while other products are catching up too.

iPAD - WHAT IS THIS SHIT?

Here is something I feel that it is no longer something like an iPOD or iPHONE. I was very convinced that this product is even crappier than when iPHONE was first rolled out (although in latter days, I find iPHONE really awesome in some angles). The name itself isn't that pleasant at all, discrimination against the women and it reminds me of tampon and sanitary pad. Why can't they named it iTablet in the first place? It looks like Steve Jobs has no other suitable name for this pad after all.

Anyway, criticism has been lauded on my previous post about it (Click here and read it - that even Hitler can't stand it!). iPad creates even more questions than a better solution for their own problems! iPad will remain as a personal device that works on no multitasking, no camera and everything of the usual Apple's absentees. Although initial reaction has been poor, the users are now getting used to it. Some quarters have expressed their satisfactory for iPad but I'm going to stick to my own opinion that iPad is still SUCKS and CRAPPY. Like I mentioned in my the previous article, iPad reserved only to those who have been fond with Apple's products. iPad can be a success but it will be largely based on the Apple's brand name.

WAIT, iPAD HAS COMPETITORS?

Yes indeed. While iPad began its sales a fortnight ago in Apple-land with sales been deemed underperformed (only 300,000 on Day One after months of pre-sales), Germany's Neofonie launched in what they called an "iPad killer". Rumours have been circling around that the so-called iPad killer or WePAD as some of you may have heard it, as a publicity stunt and hoax. The hoax appeared after many complaint that Neofonie did not showcased a proper prototype of WePad, while the one shown by its CEO Hoffer von Ankershoffen seems to be running on Windows 7. Hoax or not, later it was believed to be something promising. We will have more details when WePad will be officially introduced on April 26.

Then we have some Indian company known as Notion Ink, unveiling their slate tablet PC-like device - Adam. What's unique about this device is that is runs on a Pixel Qi screen display, the one that uses low power to operate. Like WePAD, Adam also runs on the Android OS (WePAD is more of a Linux + Android) and available in a much better processor than iPad.

Technically speaking, Apple iPad's launching has now officially set a war - the war of tablet PC worldwide. In Part Two of my report, we shall look at another 10 upcoming tablet alternative to your much mixed Apple iPad!!

WHY I LIKE IT LONGER?

doodle.png on Aviary

Long is a common English word. It's a word that is so common that it can be used for almost everything in the broad spectrum scope of time, distance, experience, emotion and more. Nevertheless, long can be both inspirational, controversial or exploratory in nature.

More recently, the word long has been extended to include one that redefines the glossy, sleeky and thin appearance of the world we lived in. A new experience of passion and love or simply an expression that requires only four letters to convey? I do not care how the borders of imaginary are breached, but I do only care WHY I LIKE IT LONGER. I LIKE IT LONGER in everything and whatever I do and I have.

SO, NOW YOU ASK WHY I LIKE IT LONGER?

(1) I can spend more time with the Slumber-land

A day of our human life existed in a form of fixed duration and moments. One day will always be 24 hours, nothing more and nothing less. But is it possible if we can stretch the time to become longer? Not really.

Why would I like it longer? The reason is simple, if only the time can be adjusted to accommodate one's desires, will anyone rants about having not enough time in their life?

I think I seriously need one because I do not think I had enough sleep these days and I need an extra couple of hours to get me back into the move.

(2) I can do my stuffs more without any worry of going flat

Battery is the source of power but it has a limited time of how long it can be consumed. My laptop can only goes and runs for 2 hours and after that, it goes flat. But is it possible to have the battery life longer? Yes.

Why would I like it longer? Besides the fact that I can do more works without ever worried to find a power point in the middle of nowhere, longer battery life also means less dependable to electricity.

A backup power can save few ringgits from my sky-rocketing power utility bills. Besides, should not we move ahead for greener life?

iPAD: THE REVOLUTION OF MAXI PAD, HITLER AND OBAMA

IPAD IS THE WORST NAME EVER

Over the weekend with the hypes of iPad has been buzzing around the ears of the people who are eager to know what it is has finally materialize. I do not really like the name even because iPad is always sounds like a sanitary napkin or women's towel. I thought Apple should have retained the rumoured names like iTablet or iSlate instead. With that, expect Apple to come out with iTampon soon.

iTampon..Oh lala...

HOW GOOD IS IT?

Here are some of the iPad features:

  • Operating on iPhone OS 3.2
  • 1GHz Apple A4 CPU
  • 768 x 1024 pixel, 9.7’ LED-backlit IPS LCD screen
  • Storage capacity choices of 16, 32 and 64GB
  • Multi-touch screen display
  • WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, USB 2.0 and soon 3G enabled
  • iTune Store, App Store, MobileMe, iBookstore
  • 9.56’ x 7.47’ x 0.5’ dimension size
  • Built-in lithium polymer battery (that claimed can have up to 10 hours usage time, 140 hours of music playback and 1 month standby)

GOOGLE NEXUS ONE OR APPLE iPHONE?

Nexus-one-desk-face

January 5, 2010. Google finally unveiled their much long-awaited smartphone to the world. The device, Nexus One, is manufactured by HTC and uses Google’s own mobile operating system, Android. With the new smartphones by Google, questions begin to arise whether this is the next alternative for Apple’s darling, iPhone. So, how both phones fared when the two were compared from all aspects?

WHAT GOOGLE IS NOT ALWAYS APPLE!!

This is a tough question to answer. First of all, I would like to remind you that both phones cater a different segment of users. iPhone is Apple and Nexus One is Google. So, in short, if you are those who are familiar with Safari, iTune, iPod or Aperture; iPhone could be the one you should use. Otherwise, take Nexus One if you are more keen towards Picasa, Android, Gmail and other Google applications. For that, they actually caters different segment users based on their preferences over Apple or Google’s applications.

WHAT SO DIFFERENT BETWEEN THEM?

Secondly, spend a few moment to look at the comparison table in terms of phone specifications between Nexus One and iPhone 3GS below. The table was taken and modified from billshrink(dot)com.

To be frank with you, I do not see much different between iPhone 3GS and Google Nexus One. On paper, the spectrum differs not much to each others while even Google Nexus One is only cheap by merely few tens of dollar from iPhone 3GS.

WHAT GOOGLE HAS THAT APPLE DON’T?

To answer this, I checked this post from Huffington Post where they laid out seven stuffs that Google Nexus One has  that Apple iPhone do not.

(1) Nexus One’s keyboard is amazingly arranged, complete with “auto-complete suggestions)

(2) Longer battery life that also equipped with a replaceable battery that can be switched out if it fails

(3) Better camera quality of 5.0 Megapixel with flash

(4) Easily dictate texts, emails, searches and notes – 90% accurate and faster than typing

(5) More open application store – Android Market does not require developers to lobby for approval for applications

(6) Cheaper in price over long term – for 2 years of contract (in US), iPhone costs $3,799 with contract while Nexus One costs only $2,579

WHAT GOOGLE HAS THAT APPLE DON’T?

Well despite the hype, I think it is still best for you to watch the following video.

NETWORK SPEED AND CAMERA QUALITY COMPARISON

Google Nexus One vs Apple iPhone 3GS

BROWSER, SPECS, NAVIGATION COMPARISON AND MORE

Again Google Nexus One vs Apple iPhone 3GS

So what is your call? Which one you choose is pretty much depends on your preferences. Judge them by yourself. I know my affinity is on Google, so Nexus One is probably the one for me.

WELCOME TO NOKIA WORLD 09: PART ONE

What do you think? Nokia is coming out with possibly the greatest idea they ever have - that is to make a notebook PC form of their product. This mark the first time Nokia will produces a laptop in their profoundable history in mobile phone history. But bear in mind, Nokia is no Sony, whom the latter has most experiences and expertise to invent such PC, but it was Nokia whom first tried it out.

Fresh from Stuggart, Germany was the Nokia World 2009 convention which was held on September 2 ago. What was more shimmering for them than to showcase their latest range of products that we can expect anytime soon during the last quarter of the year.

Booklet 3G Netbook

This is what I mean by the PC form of a mobile phone. Powered by Atom processor and 10.1-inch display, integrated 3G wireless and a hot-swappable SIM card. It looks to be running Windows 7, has integrated A-GPS with a copy of Ovi Maps, HDMI output, a rated 12 hour battery life, and the usual Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, all in a 2cm (.78 inch), 2.7lb aluminum body that's understated, sophisticated, and should make most Nokia fans very happy.

N97 Mini

This is the smaller version of their summer 'not-so-hit' smart phone, N97. During my last post about smart phones, it seems that N97 has lost in most and important aspects to Apple's iPhone 3GS and HTC Magic. It still packs 8GB of storage, a 3.2-inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard into its 14.2mm thin frame. It's also the first Nokia device to sport Lifecasting with Ovi - a new partnership with the world's largest social network, Facebook. Up to 12 days standby time are on offer and up to 28 hours music playback (in offline mode). The 5-megapixel camera comes with dual LED flash and video light, along with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens.

Nokia N900

Nokia is searching for a redemption following minor failure of N97. If you are so keen in getting N97, I suggest you to wait for this, N900. It has a 3.5 inch touch-screen, powered by a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 with a massive 1GB memory and 32GB internal storage. Of course, it is fueled with integrated GPS, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and personalized QWERTY keyboard that fits into your hand. Nokia N900 comes with a pre-loaded Ovi Maps and RSS Reader if you are into blogging. Looks like this will beat the hell of N97.

There is more to come on Nokia World '09. Second part, we will look at more new Nokia products! With them, see you!! For more info and as well the resources of this post are obtained from NOKIAN900 and ConversationsNokia.

THE EVOLUTION OF DIGI PREPAID

I was a vivid and loyal DiGi user since I first bought my first mobile phone back in April 2003. Back in the year 2003, there were an estimated 2 million DiGi subscribers nationwide, for which has grown exceeding 7 million now. DiGi is the first to introduce MMS, WAP and EDGE – technology that others later followed. However, they failed to secure the 3G technology license, beaten by the rivals a couple of years back. However, I still enjoy my use with DiGi after all.

As time goes by, so as the changes I noticed on its Prepaid Plan. In 2003, a DiGi-to-DiGi SMS costs around 20 sen, while it can be as cheap as 1 sen today. Similarly, a call will costs around 60 sen per minute where as it is only 12 sen per minute. But those were the old days. The DiGi Prepaid plans have also experience an evolution over the years. It first started as DiGi Prepaid(TM), then to Beyond Prepaid(TM) and MTV Power Pack(TM).

Now there are two most used DiGi prepaid now – NEW DiGi Prepaid I Like(TM) (the yellow duck campaign) and the new DiGi Prepaid (the latest plan). I currently using the Prepaid I LikeTM because it contains three options depending you prefer to talk more or text more.

THE DiGi Prepaid I Like(TM)

This plan consists of three optional plans where you will get cheaper call rates or SMS rates, while you still retain the use of Friends and FamilyTM package (FnF). The three options are:
  • Super FnF(TM) (balanced normal rate for Friends & FamilyTM value)
  • Super SMS(TM) (SMS-freak that deals with more texts, less calls)
  • Super Talk(TM) (talkative one that deals with more calls, less texts)
There is another option that runs together with it known as Super Long Life(TM) which allows you to extend your validity for a year with a payment of RM30. Following are the cost rates for DiGi Prepaid I LikeTM:

However, like any of those previous prepaid plans, the new simpack will not offer DiGi Prepaid I LikeTM. Old numbers still can enjoy the DiGi Prepaid I LikeTM.

THE DiGi Prepaid(TM)

Beginning 15 July 2009, DiGi offered a new prepaid plan with more savings. For this new plan just spend RM1 worth of SMS to any domestic number (excluding International, Content Provider and Friends and FamilyTM numbers) to enjoy lower rates for the day. The new prepaid looks lucrative. Following are the rates for the new DiGi PrepaidTM:

I wonder which plan to go for. The old I Like plan or the new Prepaid plan? Well, DiGi..always the smarter choice.

MAXIS’ iPHONE 3GS vs CELCOM’s HTC MAGIC

Previously I have featured four different smart phones that many predicted will be a hit during the summer of 2009 – iPhone 3GS, HTC Magic (MyTouch 3G), Nokia N95 and Palm Pre. If you missed out the reviews, please click here. The best of those are perhaps, as been reviewed in that article were iPhone and HTC’s latest model.

You bet it right. Now, both smart phones have already arrived at our shores. Only in the month of July, both smart phones were launched and available exclusively at two different telco in Malaysia. Nowadays, smart phones are been packaged exclusively and been licensed through a partnership between the phone company and the telecommunication provider.

If all these while Maxis was proud of its iPhone, now Celcom can take the similar pride for unleashing the HTC Magic.

After tossing around the website of both company, GreenTeaWorld will exclusively previews the comparison between the packages offered.

MAXIS Presents iPHONE 3GS (Reproduced from http://www.maxis.com.my)

CELCOM Presents HTC MAGIC (Reproduced from http://www.celcom.com.my)

Look at the reproduced tables yourself to compare the price and packages offered by both companies. Both smart phones should be good and were well reviewed. If you have not heard about it, go to Maxis and Celcom portal to check it out.

THE HOTTEST SMARTPHONES OF SUMMER

Which smart-phones would you want to buy? Unless you are residing in the United States or some Western countries, you may not see some of these smart-phones in the market yet. PC World review, compare and contrast the hottest smart-phones of the Summer of 2009. (Original article, click here)

The four hot smart-phones are:
Apple iPhone 3G s

Nokia N97

Palm Pre
and
T-Mobile myTouch 3G;
each with a large touch displays, slim, pocketable designs and updated operating systems.

Let's see how PC World compares and contrast each, shall we? A symbol of (♥) indicates reviewer's favourite and winner on each category (sometimes, there is a tie)

CATEGORY 1: GENERAL APPEARANCE
iPhone - "Retains the same elegant design as the 3G model - the only difference is that the text on the 3G S’s backing is silver rather than gray" (♥)
Pre - "Glossy (albeit easily smudged) back cover and its curved ergonomic shape, but its construction feels a little cheap"
N97 - "Has a matte backing and a sturdy body, but it's a bit bulky due to its slide-out QWERTY keyboard"
myTouch - "Has a pronounced curve at the bottom, which makes for a comfortable thumb grip" (♥)

CATEGORY 2: WHAT RUNS IT?
iPhone - "ARM Cortex A8 microprocessor running at 600MHz with 256MB of RAM" (♥)
Pre - "TI processor running at 600MHz with 256MB of RAM"
N97 - "ARM 11 processor running at 434MHz with 128MB of RAM"
myTouch - "900/2100MHz processor with 288MB of RAM" (♥)

CATEGORY 3: THE WAY I TYPE
HARDWARE KEYBOARD
N97 - "The horizontal keyboard is superior, though it isn’t perfect. The edge of the display is too close to the top row of keys, and you can't adjust the display's angle or make it lie flat" (♥)
Pre - "The vertical slide-out QWERTY keyboard disappoints: slightly recessed, and the bezel lip on the sides and bottom often interferes with typing"

TOUCH TYPE
iPhone - "The portrait-oriented keyboard is slightly bigger, shows you the key you pressed and makes typing easier" (♥)
myTouch - "Got used to the software keyboard fairly quickly but it was a bit too tightly packed"

CATEGORY 4: THE HOME SCREENS
iPhone - "Has a more traditional smartphone home screen, with icons for the various applications in a grid" (♥)
Pre - "A Quick Launch bar runs along the bottom of the screen, giving you fast access to frequently used functions" (♥)
N97 - "has widgets that update your personal Internet feeds in real time on your home screen so that you don't have to open another app to access them"
myTouch - "While the N97’s live-feed widgets are useful, I like the overall look and customization abilities of the myTouch 3G" (♥)

CATEGORY 5: MULTITASKING
CARD VIEW (Palm Pre) vs PUSH NOTIFICATIONS (Apple iPhone 3G S)
Pre - "Pre’s deck-of-cards visualization makes multitasking simple and engaging" (♥)
iPhone - "While push notifications are a step in the right direction, it just isn’t the same as true multitasking, and therefore the Pre comes out on top"

NOTIFICATIONS (N97) vs NOTIFICATIONS (T-Mobile myTouch 3G)
N97 - "Doesn’t have a notification system (though some of your info, such as your Facebook account, does get updated in real time via the home screen’s live-feed widgets)"
myTouch - "Notifications pop up along the top of the myTouch’s display, alerting you to a new IM, e-mail, app update or the like. To view all of your notifications, you simply tap and pull down the notifications menu" (♥)

CATEGORY 6: MY CALENDAR APPS of iPhone vs myTouch
iPhone - "While it doesn’t receive a huge makeover in OS 3.0, it does get some more flexibility in terms of which calendars you can use" (♥)
myTouch - "Natively supports Google Calendar (obviously) and allows you to set up reminders that will pop up on your status bar via the notification system." (♥)

CATEGORY 7: GPS AND DIGITAL COMPASS of iPhone vs N97
iPhone - "The iPhone compass’s elegant interface -- and its integration into Google Maps on the iPhone 3G S" (♥)
N97 - "The N97’s compass is a tiny blip in the corner of the Nokia Maps application (which is actually very well-done)"

Here is the result of the review by PC World:

Apple iPhone 3G S (♥)(♥)(♥)(♥)(♥)(♥)
Palm Pre (♥)(♥)
Nokia N97 (♥)
T-Mobile myTouch 3G(♥)(♥)(♥)(♥)(♥)

After hearing the simple verdict by Ginny Mies of PC World, it is profound that iPhone 3G S and T-Mobile myTouch 3G may be the next phones to look for.

New technology applied in these smart-phones but what say you? Do you agree with PC World?

SO EVERYONE IS FOLLOWING iPHONE

Two years ago, Apple unveiled this holy of grail of their own - iPhone and since then has spawned several versions over the year. Now, iPhone 3G is available in Malaysia but one thing to ponder, why Maxis have to monopoly it?
