ALL HAIL VETTEL, RED BULL RACING

Fernando Alonso entered the weekend for the last race in Abu Dhabi with a destiny on his own to nurture. He was leading the closest and tightest Formula One Championship battle ever in the recent memory with a mere 8 points ahead of title rival Mark Webber, 15 ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 24 ahead of Lewis Hamilton. With huge points awarded for classified finish this season, let's assumes that thimhs can go the other way in a swift move.

However, the outcome of last night's dawn-to-night race at Abu Dhabi produced a different story at the end. Sebastian Vettel takes things to the different way by winning the last race of the season and eventually the Drivers champion. At the age of 23, Vettel becomes the youngest world champion ever.

Ferrari's championship leader Fernando Alonso came with a disappointing seventh while another Red Bull's title hopeful Webber was eight.

RED BULL RACING CLINCHES F1 CONSTRUCTOR TITLE

It could not have gone worst for the Red Bull Racing team for not clinching the title earlier at Korea a fortnight ago. Last race at Yeongnam circuit produced one of the most set-back result ever in this year calendar when both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel failed to finish, delaying the awaited moment and surrendering the driver's title to Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. Despite the delay, Red Bull Racing has finally clinched the 2010 World Constructors title with one race away following a 1-2 finish at Interlagos.

Last night's race again tells the similar story like what it had been told since earlier this season. The Red Bull Racing has been no doubt the most dominant force in the sport this year, but the blame-game should be pointed to the fact that the consistency and reliability remains one of the issue that requires Adrian Neway, the key technical behind the team to ponder off for the next season.

FORMULA ONE 2010: BAHRAIN GP

The 2010 Formula One Season starts it off at Bahrain. It looks a blazing race with desert climate overhaul the challenge with heat and sand. Sakhir International Circuit will open this season with what many would expect a rather competitive season. Indeed, analysts after the pre-season testing suggested that the top four team will stand a chance of snatching a piece of pie: Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes GP and Red Bull.

THE PREVIEW

THE REVIEW

  1. The highest ranked debutant driver and the only who finished the race was Nico Hulkenberg of Williams. The other four debutants all retired.
  2. The new circuit layout with extra long second stint with most of the drivers lapping in about 64 seconds on this section.
  3. From the three new teams that make their debut on this race, only Lotus Cosworth finished the race (both drivers sailed through). Both from HRT and Virgin Racing all retired.
  4. Fernando Alonso's win was made possible only by Vettel's exhaust problem. Other wise, the German has been constantly ahead.
  5. It was a heartbreaking truth to be swallowed by Red Bull Racing.
  6. Ferrari claimed the first one-two of the season and it seems interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
Next race is in Australia in a fortnight time.

The insight of whos and whos. The 12 teams this year will featured a competitive results just like last year. However, there are few who already gone much further in front than the others, as evidently seen in the pre-season testing. Heading the field is Jenson Button, the reigining world Driver's Championship.

WHAT A SHAME! WHERE IS THE SPORTMANSHIP?

Two big dogs are barking at each other on the other side of the fence. Each wants a piece of bone that is only available for one of them. There is nothing to choose between these two canines other than keep barking at each other as furious as possible to show who is the boss. The one which barks the loudest would win the jewel prize of a piece of bone.

However, in sports, barking louder does not guarantee any success nor victory. In sport, actions prove to be louder than any words. Pundits can throw their betting, analysis and opinions on who should and why this should be the case result. Off-field pundits do not transfer well into the on-field performance and results.

This is the case when there are two big bosses for different airline companies have emerged as the main force to drive their own new Formula One teams. In the British Isles we have Sir Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Atlantic Airways, who is also the owner for Virgin F1 Racing team. On the other part of the world, we have our own Malaysian's Dato' Tony Fernandez, the founder of Air Asia and team principal of Lotus F1 team.

The two influencer in aviation industry once worked together and it is by no surprise that they share the same passion and experiences. These passions are something that is well-mixed in their bloodstreams. But alas, what a shame! Been the two biggest players where all Formula One is all about money that are thrown just to erect the loudest and fastest car, but to condemn the spirit of sportmanship is no gentlemen at all.

Lotus F1 and Virgin Racing are among the four new teams competing in the 2010 Formula One season. Next season's Formula One is about to create history by making a very much different atmosphere than the one we used to endure before. While the testing season, which will pretty much indicate and gauge each team's performance is far from begin, the challenging season has started between these two bosses.

Fernandes recently quipped that his only target in the new F1 season was to beat Branson; otherwise, he would retire and kill himself.

Branson then suggested something less macabre.

"He has an airline. We have an airline. If we beat him, he can come and work on one of our airlines as a Virgin stewardess. It will save him having to kill himself but we'll make sure the stewardess outfit is perfect." Richard Branson.

The next thing you heard in the paper the next morning is how Dato' Tony Fernandes kindly accepted the offer.

"Our guests will be delighted to be served by a knight of the realm. But knowing Richard, the real challenge will be to prevent him from asking our guests 'coffee, tea or me?'" Tony Fernandes.

Fernandes said if Branson lost the challenge, he would be assigned to duty on board a flight operated by AirAsia X. "We'd like to keep him with us for a longer flight rather than the short-haul flights operated by AirAsia. We'll be applying soon to the Department of Civil Aviation to gain clearance for him."

So, these two bosses are willing to sell their own dignity just to create some nice scene for the F1 fans to see. But I bet not many of us will buy them. It's not only the personal agendas are put into gamble on the Russian roulette table, but the national interests as well. Forget about this shameless challenging verbs been thrown at each other, the end result from the on field car racing is what matter most. This is the day when the sports-world lost its spirit of sportmanship for awhile.

SPANISH GP AND THE SAME DOMINANTS

Spanish GP marks the first outing in the central European continental, and also marks that the current Formula one season has gone by about a third. It is hard to imagine another household name in winning any race besides those two from the Brawn GP. The end of the day analysis can tells you much more but Brawn GP is still the team to beat.

Jenson Button started on pole, followed by Vettel, Barrichello and Massa. However, at the starting point, Barrichello fired it up to past Button while Massa's challenge distracted the both front runners. Therefore, the first lap looks like Barrichello lead from Button, Massa and Vettel. A further back, Trulli, Bourdais, Buemi and Sutil have a massive piling up on the track, with the four retired and safety car was brought in.

The safety car was brought out four laps later and the race restarted. But the field quickly evaporated to only 15 runners as Heikki Kovalainen is out in some sort of porblem at lap 7. Barrichello and Button slowly pulls away from the third man Massa at a very substantial time.

First pit stop window opened at lap 17, Glock was the first to pit followed by Button and Alonso. Raikkonen became the 6th retiree with anpther disastrous hydraulic problem. When it became apparent that Barrichello first stop was amazingly fast, it learns quickly that the Brazilian was in a three-stoppers. After round one pit stop: Barrichello leads ahead of Rosberg (on long fuel) and the order changed nothing much. Too much dismay, Vettel who has a faster car, was tucked up behind Massa who was holding things well.

Now in the middle stinct, Barrichello came in for his second pit while Webber became increasingly close to the top four now. However, Barrichello was struggling with some problem and had not been fast enough to tickle off Vettel in third. Button was also been radioed over to inform that he just need to be quicker as both Massa and Vettel were on hot pursuit. Webber on heavily fuel early on also making fire pace too.

Now, the fields were making their second stop, a third one for Barrichello. The only funnier moment seems another strategical error for Ferrari - Massa was asked to save fuel and see if can get to the end! Webber's long middle stinct paiud him off. Massa slowed down and let Webber, Vettel and Alonso to pass him until the chequered flag.

In the end, another win for Button while Barrichello was unable to stop asling himself why he was now in second. Earlier, it was told that both Brawns will be running on 3 stops but somehow, Button's strategy was altered to allow only 2 pits. Red Bull promised a new package on next stop in Monaco. I do hope at least another team can do anything to halt current Brawn's hot red, and my best bet will be on Red Bull.

Brawn was flying and I'm surprised that the real pace setter this weekend were Red Bulls and Ferraris. Ferrari was fast over the weekend but again, luck was not on their side. Keep it up boys! The full race result is as follows:

REVISITING ARYTON SENNA

Let us ask ourselves, who was the greatest Formula One driver ever? It is Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost or the late Aryton Senna? This is a hard question to answer. Although in terms of records and statistics, Michael Schumacher has a far edge over them; but nothing stops late Aryton Senna to push further beyond his limit, producing some outstanding performance.

Senna died 15 years ago in a freak accident in Imola, San Marino, in which the race weekend itself was already considered dark when on qualifying session, Roland Ratzenberger was killed in an accident. Since then, the motorsport changed dramatically when we talk about drivers and tracks safety. Rules after rules were implemented and the Imola circuit itself has already been altered to ensure no further tragic death at such to ever occur again.

According to Andrew Benson of BBC; "Senna's single-minded pursuit of success led to an uncompromising driving style that verged on dangerous, an approach since followed with conspicuous success by Schumacher. But, to many, Senna also redefined what was possible in an F1 car. He had a rage to win married to an ability that some would argue has never been equalled."

His career in Formula One began in 1984 after an unsuccessful bid to enter Williams, while in his early career, he was subtle in the Toleman team. He made debut in 1984 Brazilian GP and scored his first points at the subsequent South African GP. His best performance came in Monaco, when he eventually catching up the leader Prost at 4 seconds a lap before rain tormented his effort and the race was red-flagged. In 1984, he won 13 championship points.

In 1985, he moved to Team Lotus and had a mixed career. He won his first GP in 1985 Portuguese GP and made another 5 wins across his three seasons with Lotus. He garnered 38, 55 and 57 points for the three seasons (1985 to 1987) he was in Lotus, achieving double 4th overall finish, except the 3th in 1987 in driver's championship.

Thanks to his good relationship with Honda, he moved to McLaren in 1988. McLaren, now supplied by Honda proved to be the fastest car, joining Alain Prost as his team-mate in McLaren.

His rivalry career with 4 times-World Champion, Alain Prost was perhaps the most exciting and fiercely occured. Once the team-mates argued and even screwing each others' chances of winning, particularly in 1988 and 89. Read more here at Wikipedia. "The rivalry between Senna and Prost grew into the bitterest the sport has ever seen, and each man to a degree became defined by it."

ALAN PROST, another Formula One legend..

With his rival Prost for two seasons of team-mates, they dominated Formula One and twice involved in the championship-deciding collisions. In 1988, Aryton Senna won his first championship while Prost won his third the following year. As I said, go back to the wikipedia link regarding their rivalry to read more.

Enough is enough and Prost left the McLaren to join Ferrari in 1990. With struggling at pace in his Ferrari car, Senna took the opportunity and seized the World Championship in succession in 1990 and 1991. For the two following seasons, Honda-powered McLaren suffered and he was unable to clinch more title. Not before in 1993, the year Alain Prost won his fourth Championship and his final year in F1, did Senna and Prost showed some compassion despite their rivalry. Friends and nemesis can occured at the same time. In the emotional final Austarlian GP which marked Prost final appearance, Senna dragged Prost who finished second up to the top of the podium and embraced him. That marks the end of their bittersweet rivalry.

"He was recognised for his qualifying speed over one lap and held the record for most pole positions from 1989 to 2006 (until Michael Schumacher broke the record). He was among the most talented drivers in extremely rain-affected conditions, as show by his performances in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix, and the 1993 European Grand Prix. He also holds the record for most victories at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix (6) and is the third most successful driver of all time in terms of race wins. - Wikipedia"

1994 - he migrated to Williams. At the third race in Imola, Senna was killed in an accident that will never be fully explained. In the same year where he joined Williams from the struggling McLaren, it was later revealed that Williams possessed some of the serious technical flaws in-design for their 1994 car. Despite the flaws, Senna was still able to drive the car to pole position for the first two races but failed to finish.

Going into San Marino, Senna was desperated as Michael Schumacher was leading the Championship, and he kenw that he needed to push over the limit to win.

Andrew Benson added, "Already it was clear that one of F1's great rivalries was in the offing, the young pretender challenging the supremacy of the veteran master, who was determined to hang on to his position.

But as Senna headed into the Tamburello corner at 190mph, with Schumacher just over a second behind, something went wrong. The Williams speared off the road and hit a concrete wall, still travelling at 137mph.
As fate would have it, a front wheel was knocked back towards the cockpit and Senna's helmet visor was pierced by a suspension arm. If the wheel had missed him, he would have stepped from the wreck unhurt."

Until today, Senna's death is still a mystery.

NO RAIN, NO SAFETY CAR, A TRUE CHEQUERED FLAG WIN

No rain, no safety car period. That's the differences between this race and the previous three races. Also, this is a race in Middle East, where Formula One is now going westward towards the crucial middle stint of the European circuits. Track temperature is blistering hot, reaching about 50 degree while the sky is clear and sunshine illuminates the skyline in Sakhir.

The opening phase saw Timo Glock leaped frog his team mante, Jarno Trulli to lead the race. By the end of the first corner, Hamilton leaped to second behind Glock and Trulli; while Button also made a similar move ahead of Vettel. Hamilton was fast but not before he made mistake that allowed Button to overtake him. Massa involved in a tight claustrophic collide with Nakajima where both entered pit for a nose change.

The first round of pit stops, proved to be in Button's favour. After trailing the pair of Toyota by few seconds behind, he found himself in cushion while Vettel was heavily compromised by Hamilton in early laps and Trulli following the first pits. Button slowly pulled away. The train of fight for the second place was imminent among the three; Trulli, Vettel and Hamilton. Glock was suprisingly out of the contention.

Trulli and Vettel battled it all out until the Italian made his second pits, thus releasing Vettel for a faster pace. He led for a brief 3 laps stint when Button pitted earlier than him, but having 3 fast laps were not enough. By the end of the second pit stops window, Button and Vettel emerged far ahead of Trulli, Hamilton, Barrichello and Raikkonen. Raikkonen had a very dramatic cat and mouse game with Glock which proved the Toyota was still somehow faster than Ferrari.

On the final phase, it was a cool and steady for both Button and Vettel with the former had a gap of around 10 seconds of the latter.

In the end, Button took the chequered flag for the third time this season, followed by another strong podium for Sebastian Vettel. Pole seater Trulli came in third. Now you know who had a superior car. In my opinion, Brawn GP still have a faster car than any of the field. However, do not underestimates Red Bull as their engineers were busy designing the new diffuser for them.

One thing for sure, Ferrari finally scored some points here - thanks to a good decent run by Kimi Raikkonen. Massa's continue lackluster of luck was again imminent in Bahrain. The Italian horse power remained ninth but with European circuits ahead, they will remain on focus to catch up the rest of the field.

This is the race result:

WHY WAS IT RAINING IN SHANGHAI THEN?

Last check I had on the weather forecast in Shanghai was a reported cloudy for the Sunday afternoon. First sat in front of the television set and to my surprise, it was raining substantially and the track was completely wet. After two days of sunshine in Shanghai, strong wind had blown the rain clouds over and it had been pouring right from the start. This is a condition that eventually start the race from where we last stop - a rain tainted weekend in Sepang.

The opening phase saw safety car was deployed to lead the race with Sebastian Vettel from pole position, followed by Alonso, Webber, Barrichello and Button. Brawn GP knew that the front three particularly Alonso were on light fuel. However, things were not as easy as a mathematical fuel calculation can be in reality.

Then Alonso pitted early during the end of the safety car period, which indicates how low fuel he was on-board. Alonso's pit was followed by the start of the real action. Hamilton in an improved car with KERS aid, past Raikkonen for 6th place. Since then, Hamilton continued to hunt the drivers in front of him while Raikkonen was losing pace and consistency.

Visibility on the track become reduced. Because of thet, on lap 18, Robert Kubica ran straight, smashing the back of Jarno Trulli. Trulli having lost the rear wing and spoiler retired. However, the safety car was deployed again. 3 laps later, Massa's car came to a stall and he retired as well. We saw a couple of spun-off the track later but nothing compares to Nelson Piquet's crash into the marker and broke off the nose.

The main attention for the second place remained with Button battling Webber all the way. They made sensational moves and passes, a great drama during the boring middle stinct. There was a brief glory for lowly Force India when Adrian Sutil sits on sixth before he had a nasty spun and out on Lap 51, succumbed to pressure from Lewis Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel which has been steadily driving through the corners and water spots on the Shanghai track finally emerged victory. His second career win and the most important of all, first race win for Red Bull Racing. The Red Bulls were simply on fire, when Webber shaked off Button's challenge to grab the second place.

In the end, a sweat podium finish for the Red Bulls. Button remained the leader with his third podium in a row. Ferrari remained pointless - a worst start since 1981; while McLaren has a strong improvement.

Who says Formula One is predictable? Now you don't...this is the race result:
