WHO COULD TAKE OVER THE SPIDEY SUIT?

If you have not heard about the news that Sony Pictures has scrapped the plan for Spider-Man 4 and instead going for the reboot button for a new fresh air, where were you? It comes to no surprise because of politics in ideas and opinions, director of three previous Spidey movie Sam Raimi and Sony were in head-butt situation over the script and what's not. For sure, those hopes to see Sam Raimi making another Spider-Man movie with the familiar faces like Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will not materialize. Read here, here and here for more.

So, Empire Online has been kind enough to make this. Well, as always, I'm not the kind of person who loves to predict what is going to happen. I am not a fortune-teller and I am not so into fortune cookie either. But, let's ask yourself this - DO YOU NEED ANOTHER SPIDER-MAN THAT GOES TO HIGH SCHOOL (AGAIN)?

What did the fortune teller back at Empire Online told you? Oh, here are top ten choices for the next Peter Parker.

(1) ZAC EFRON
High School Musical lead and considered as studio frontrunner. Young, charming but too pretty for Peter Parker role.

(2) JIM STURGESS
You have seen in Across The Universe and 21. Good actor and have great fond for his role in Sony's 21 but he is 32.

(3) REEVE CARNEY
Current choice for planned Broadway Spider-Man. Not a familiar face you may know but this option is good too.

(4) ANTON YELCHIN
As Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation and Chekov in Star Trek. Impressive year for this lad but I hope he don't speak Russian if he is indeed Peter Parker.

(5) DANIEL RADCLIFFE
Who else if he is not Harry Potter? Still young and will probably need to drop his British accent for the role, and also he is too short for Peter Parker.

(6) ROBERT PATTINSON
Edward of Twilight may venture into Spidey? Possible and since he is the biggest young people draw at the moment. The issues were his hair and pale face.

(7) JAKE GYLLENHALL
Tobey Maguire's brother in Brothers and also will be bigger in Prince of Persia. His name appeared when Maguire wasn't able to return for Spider-Man 2 because of back injury. But he is too old for a reboot.

(8) AARON JOHNSON
He will kicking ass in Kick-Ass. His role in Kick-Ass looks the same with the reboot settings - in a high school and as a superhero.

(9) JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT
He is from (500) Days of Summer and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. If Marc Webb is in, I think he will be too. He is versatile - romantic (Summer), action (G.I. Joe) and funny (3rd Rock From The Sun) but he is approaching 30.

(10) JOSH HUTCHERSON
Bridge to Terabithia, Cirque Du Freak and Journey to the Centre of the Earth star. He's 18 and what an appropriate age for the reboot. But again, he is even shorter than Harry Potter or maybe his growth spurt has accelerated.

So, here are the top ten guessing names for a possible replacement for Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. What say you? Yet still, is it necessary to have another Spider-Man movie that deals with high school?

I know I seldom blog about events in my blog but here it is. Thanks to Nuffnang, I got a pair of tickets for this Saturday's TMusic Festival at Bukit Jalil National Stadium from 7pm to 12am. Here is the proof:

TMusic Festival, a collaboration between Tiger Beer and Galaxy event and of course with Nuffnang, will features the greatest musics from the Oriental World. This five hour long concert features a host of regional acts such as Joey Yung from Hong Kong, David Tao from Taiwan, James and Chin from Thailand, and Kelvin Tan from Singapore, among others. Local acts are also there to entertain such as Z-Chen, Eric Lim and many others.

I hope you will enjoy yourself there. See I win from Nuffnang themselves and I didn't win from other people's blog. Always have the same and only famous people who get the chances to attract more people into their blog by giving out passes! So what!!!

This is last week's EPL result and I have to say Liverpool escaped another humiliation. I wonder what people are suggesting Mr Rafael Benitez will do? Say bye bye to Anfield or continue this kind of form?

Enough said, Manchester United goes into the new season as a defending champion but may face some difficulty defending it since two jewels - Ronaldo and Tevez will not be around - there goes about 40 goals. Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are looking strong at the beginning of the season as ever, been the traditional Big Four. Manchester City is looking good as well as Tottenham and several other teams.

FLYING TAXI IN TAIPING, BUT IT DIDN'T END UP WELL

Anyone in Taiping saw this?

Yeah, this is a flying taxi, the one and only such in the world that was built by a company called Avcen Ltd which is based in Britain. Since 1998, they have been actively testing, assembling and promoting the use of Jetpod, an aircraft that can hover around at the height of only 200 metres in average and can be commercialize as a flying taxi with capability to taxi 8 peoples. The flying taxi is due to be ready in 2010.

However, today something initiates as big event to test the Jetpod turned ugly. The Jetpod, tested by its inventor Michael Robert Dacre, 53, who was piloting the taxi, crashed and burst into a ball flames during a test flight at Tekah, somewhere in Taiping I guess. (As reported here at The Star)

The crash happened at 12.30pm Sunday, killing Dacre, who is also Avcen's managing director.

According to Wikipedia, Jetpod is a design proposal for a very quiet aircraft that can take off and land in a short distance or acronym as STOL - 125 metres to be exactly. It is not really a helicopter but it can be used as a military aircraft for transportation, medium-range air taxi or as an executive transport. It can reach a maximum speed of 550km/h. THE H1N1 SAGA IS HERE...

The outbreak of the Influenza A (H1N1) pandemic seems like to be the most talked about story yet so far. It was only last month that the total of cases of reported to the Ministry of Health was only less than 150. However, a full month later, the number of cases leaps more than 600% to over 1,100 cases. Only in this week alone, 4 deaths were reported.

I sensed that with the outbreak been a little beyond and out of control where more than 50 cases reported daily, it was not that hard to convince myself that someday the outbreak will eventually hit the area inside my campus fences. What feared the most were that the outbreak will become more widespread and situation might get worst with time.

The prediction eventually came true on Sunday (July 26, 2009). Not that I am glad that this thing had happen but the implications will not be pleasing at all. With the difficulty to content the widespread, the pandemic will eventually hit the campus finally if not now. With the announcement that the Influenza A (H1N1) has finally arrived, my campus was officially shut down for a period of a week.

Guess what happen and that day, it kinds of making me frustrated and irritated.

DAYS BEFORE: There were reports of students in the hostel fell ill with showing symptoms of flu-like

SUNDAY (26 JULY): An estimated more than 50 students were ill and shows flu-like symptoms in the hostel. Suspected cases of H1N1 were reported and the hostel administration received letter from the MOH to shut down the hostel for a week for quarantine purposes.

MONDAY (27 JULY):
8.00 am – Class as usual as if nothing had happen. I arrived at my campus and there are many students still around.
9.26 am – Some students informed our lecturer that the students should go back to the hostel or their home with immediate effects. Hoax or false alarm you may call it but it eventually was true.
9.54 am – Now I felt limbo because since there were official announcement been made on the official university site or from any notice board, I cannot leave just like that. The administration was still discussing whether total shut down is necessary (WHAT!!)
10.40 am – Morning classes for my faculty has been cancelled but afternoon classes still in limbo.
10.52 am – I went to library but it was closed. I realized that the laboratory, computer lab and clinics were closed, leaving me nowhere to go.
12.30 pm – Afternoon classes were cancelled but classes for the next day remains in limbo. For update, we have to stick ourselves to the Facebook. (AGAIN WHAT!!)
2.54pm – I received text from a friend of mine that the classes will be suspended for a week.

What irritates me is the fact that they were so limbo and inefficient in taking actions.
  1. If there are students been infected and been asked to close down the hostel, why didn’t they do it in the first place on Sunday night? They still allowed students to leave the hostel for classes when quarantine was supposed to be undergone. So what happen to the “Quarantine”?
  2. If the hostel was closed, why didn’t the campus been closed at the first place? If no one was supposed to leave the hostel, how many people will attend for classes then? With more than half of the students staying in hostels, would it be logical that classes still be held?
  3. When instructed to return to the hostel and while other students from other faculty have done so, why do we have to wait for so long for a so-called ‘Official Decision” to be announced? If the classes needed to be suspended in the wake of such circumstances, why would they need to discuss for such a length until a decision was made?

Logically, should they take the actions sterner and appropriately in the first place? Why risk more local transmission among the students who went to the campus because they didn’t shut down the hostel in the first place? Why would take a long time to decide what to do?

In emergency time when outbreaks occur, would you expect things like this to occur? Blame it on the bureaucracy, please! Things like this should not have happen. Failed professionalism, failed mentality. That’s Malaysia.

COME LET'S VOTE FOR SIPADAN

Sipadan Island
is a tropical oceanic island located on the south-east of the Malaysian state of Sabah, offshore of the town of Tawau. Located in the Celebes Sea (Laut Sulawesi) and right at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin, the centre of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. More than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem.

Sipadan Island is actually a mushroom shaped atoll rising six hundred metres from the deep sea floor, with the island rises above the corals that covered above the millenia old extinct volcano cone on the seabed. Although Sipadan is recognized as one of the five best spots for diving, the designation of Marine Park status for the island since 2005 means diving activity will become scarce and a rare seen phenomenon and accommodation was dislodged from the island ever since.

However, this in line with the establishment of the need to protect the oceanic life and natural ecosystem that consists of the schools of green and hawksbill turtles nesting and mating, schools of barracuda and big-eye trevally in tornado-like formations, pelagic species such as manta rays, eagle rays, scalloped hammerhead sharks and whale sharks.

WHAT A LOSS FOR THE CHAMPS

This weekend, as a Malaysian, we are saddened by the fact that our Malaysians' World Number One had lost, yes both of them. If you are been a noob, out-dated from the news world, let me remind you that Malaysia has two World Number One title in two different sports.
On Saturday, our World Number One in Woman's Squash Single player, (Datuk) Nicol Ann David lost for the first time after a winning streak of 56 matches. Unbeaten since November 2007, she was finally brought down to earth by the World Number 4, Natalie Grainger of the United States when she lost the Final of CIMB Kuala Lumpur Open at Berjaya Times Square; 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6 with the match took about 51 minutes.
On Sunday night, our another World Number One in Man's Badminton single player, (Datuk) Lee Chong Wei was beaten in the All England Super Series final against rival and former number one, who else if not Lin Dan of China. He lost in a straight game but surely he did better than last year's salvaged final of the Olympic where he only settled with a silver medal. In fact, it was Lin Dan that did a lot of unforced errors.
On another note, a young rising Chinese badminton star is meteoring the Woman's Single category. Wang Yi Han, aged only 21, muscled over Tina Rasmussen of Denmark to win the woman's All England title. She certainly did a great job but still made a lot of errors during the game in what I would thought it reminisence the Man's final. Watch out for this name, Wang Yi Han. She may be the next Xie Xingfang and I don't know why my friends said she looked pretty especially in one of the photo below (the one with Cheng Hong).

By the way, because I am still talking about Wang Yi Han, I found out some interesting point for you to ponder. Now compare these two pictures of the two badminton players.

Wang Yi Han of course.
and...Sony Dwi Kuncoro.
Are they long-lost siblings or something?

SONY ERICSSON 2009 QUARTER ONE NEWS

It's been reported that Sony Ericsson products that are new in the market were found to be malfunction. I'm not sure how true is this statement but judging by some other aspect, I prefer to stay on the dark since I'm not into buying a new phone. However, looking at the new products from Sony Ericsson which was available for the year 2009, it's hard to imagine that they are malfunctions.

For the year 2008, SE made a bit of loss, in fact seeing its market share to drop significantly. Nokia still control the market shares, followed by a strong challenge by Samsung. SE ranks fifth after LG and struggling rival, Motorola. However, SE began to climb back and it was reported to be on position number three based on sales in Quarter 3 2008. For the year 2008, SE sold 96.6 million units of mobile phones.

The sales are significantly aided by the success rollout of SE Xperia-1, C905 and Play Music Plus. The year 2009 will be fueled by the following models - some are already on the market while there is one waiting for releases.
